The iplayer video expired on me…bah!

But I thought this was an interesting debate about the recent furore of PIP implants. The Health Minister (Anne Milton) seemed in control of a sometimes (understandably) hostile room full of women some of which have got PIP breast implants – one even claimed hers had burst and some of the silicone had leaked into her lymph nodes (yuk…). All were concerned that the UK government wasn’t doing enough to help them as they had been fobbed off by their GPs and other healthcare workers – one woman claimed a nurse turned to her during a scan and said that she was wasting tax-payers money by being there…Anne Milton kept on saying there was no evidence that these PIP implants would harm their health and to go back to their GPs if they were not happy…basically she was also washing her hands of them.

As I say Anne Milton seemed in control until the author/feminist Naomi Wolf layed into her and pointed out that there was 25 years worth of data that breast implants have a negative effect on womens health, but this evidence has been ignored due to clinics cashing in on this lucrative market. She got her point across well much to the chagrin of the Minister who at time seemed to seethe.

What wasn’t really answered was Jeremy Paxmans question (aimed at Katie Price/Jordan) about WHY do women want bigger breasts in the first place. The ‘answer’ was “I just feel better with bigger breasts” with lots of women nodding to this comment. Actually, this doesn’t matter one way or the other as it is the women with the PIP implants who have been stuffed over this. The Government should request that all these women who want to remove/change their PIP implants should do so on the NHS as I feel it’s not worth asking these women to risk their health until the UK Government gets the evidence it needs. By then it may be too late.
